Accessibility and Usability

The Berliner Ensemble is part of the "Reisen für alle" (Travel for All) programme. As part of this programme, all venues have been assessed and certified according to a Germany-wide labelling system. A detailed overview with descriptions of the accessibility and usability of all venues can be found at www.reisen-fuer-alle.de.

Detailed information on accessibility for people with walking difficulties and wheelchair users, for people with hearing impairments and deaf people, for people with visual impairments and blind people, and for people with cognitive impairments can be found in this PDF.

Tickets

People with a severe disability (50% GdB or higher) or holding a B-card, and their accompanying person, receive a 50% discount on all performances at the Berliner Ensemble (excluding premieres, guest performances, Theatertag, New Year's Eve performances and special or external events). Tickets for people with a severe disability are available via the online shop, by telephone on +49 30 284 08 155, by email to theaterkasse@berliner-ensemble.de or directly at the box office.

All three of the Berliner Ensemble's venues have wheelchair-accessible seats. We ask for your understanding that wheelchair spaces cannot be booked online. We do this to prevent people who do not require these spaces from purchasing them in advance, which would prevent wheelchair users from attending a performance.

The Berliner Ensemble supports the KulturLeben Berlin association, which arranges event tickets for people on low incomes. Further information can be found at www.kulturleben-berlin.de.

How to get here

All of the Berliner Ensemble's venues on Bertolt-Brecht-Platz are accessible thanks to excellent connections to local public transport (ÖPNV). Detailed information on accessibility at the nearest station, Friedrichstraße, can be found here.

Visually impaired or blind people can find audio directions here from the Friedrichstraße S-Bahn station and the Oranienburger Tor U-Bahn station to the Berliner Ensemble.

Please note that the Berliner Ensemble does not have its own car park. There are three designated disabled parking spaces on Bertolt-Brecht-Platz along the side facing the River Spree.

Access to our Venues

We would like to provide you with clear information on access to all three of the Berliner Ensemble's venues.

The Großes Haus is accessible without steps via the side entrance to the right of the main entrance, through the inner courtyard, which features a ramp and a stairlift. Almost all rooms and facilities in the Großes Haus are accessible without steps. Exception: The 1st and 2nd floors (1st and 2nd tiers) are only accessible via stairs. Almost all doors and passageways are at least 90 cm wide.

The toilet for people with disabilities is located on the left in the Parkettfoyer. Please note: The door to the toilet for people with disabilities in the Parkettfoyer is 79 cm wide. The Neues Haus and the Werkraum, which are in the same building, are accessible without steps. Wheelchair users can access the Neues Haus and the Werkraum via the entrance to the Neues Haus foyer in the inner courtyard. In the Neues Haus, all rooms and facilities available to you are accessible via a step-free route or by lift, which runs from the ground floor to the first floor (Neues Haus auditorium) and also stops at the level of the workshop. Please report to our admissions staff upon arrival at the Neues Haus; they will assist you with access. The lift cabin measures 145 cm x 140 cm. The lift door is 90 cm wide. All doors and passageways are at least 90 cm wide.

Audio Description

As part of the pilot project 'Berliner Spielplan Audiodeskription', the Berliner Ensemble regularly offers performances with audio description (live commentary via wireless headphones) for audience members with visual impairments and reserves a special allocation of tickets for this purpose during advance sales. You can find the dates at www.berliner-ensemble.de/audiodeskription and in our monthly programme. The performance dates each indicate whether and when a tactile tour can be attended before the performance. Headphones can be hired on presentation of a deposit from one hour before the start of the performance. Tickets are available from our box office on +49 30 284 08 155.

CONTENT NOTES and information on sensitive content

In the interests of transparent communication, and recognising that the content of a play can be experienced differently depending on individual circumstances, the Berliner Ensemble provides additional information on content that we classify as sensitive. These notes on sensitive content – also known as 'content notes' or 'trigger warnings' – indicate that certain themes and stimuli are dealt with on stage which may provoke strong reactions. Selected themes for which we provide content notes include physical, psychological or sexual violence, child abuse, self-harm, war, suicide, discriminatory language, eating disorders and addictions. You can find an overview here.

Do you have any further questions about your visit? Our visitor service will be happy to assist you by telephone on +49 30 284 08 155 (Monday to Friday from 10.00 am to 6.30 pm) or by email at theaterkasse@berliner-ensemble.de.
