Mateja Koležnik

Mateja Koležnik is one of Slovenia's most important theater directors. She graduated from the Academy for Theatre, Radio, Film and Television in Ljubljana, after having already had a successful career as a singer. Her diploma production was Harold Pinter's "Birthday Party". Since then, authors of the 20th century have been a focus of her work. Mateja Koležnik directs at the great theaters of the former Yugoslavia: Maribor, Nova Gorica and Belgrade, as well as at the State and City Theater of Ljubljana. Her productions have received numerous festival invitations, prizes and awards, including twice the highest Slovenian theater award.

Her debut in German-speaking countries was "Yvonne, Princess of Burgundy" at the Schauspiel Chemnitz in 2012 and further works followed in Leipzig, Munich and Vienna. Mateja Koležnik always works with her permanent artistic team. This has been closely linked for many years and consists of the musician Mitja Vrhovnik-Smrekar, the choreographer Matija Ferlin, the costume designer Alan Hranitelj and - most recently - the set designer Raimund Orfeo Voigt.
