Finally, the young intellectual Hugo is given the long-awaited big mission by his party: To kill Hoederer, head of the party’s more moderate faction. Because Hoederer is planning a secret pact with the Regent, who previously cooperated with the fascists. Hoederer’s aims are to prevent further bloodshed and, at the same time, secure his own position of power. Once Hugo meets Hoederer and is captivated by his charisma, he begins to query his mission. When he finally kills him after all, jealousy is one of his motives. Is his deed still a political deed? Did he commit it from conviction – and does this even make a difference? Slovenian director Mateja Koležnik’s concentrated productions often appear like a burning lens directed at the personal and social conflicts in the texts as well as our present day lives.
