David Gees

David Gees was born in Zürich, where, after completing his Matura, he did a year-long internship at Schauspielhaus Zürich. During that year, he developed a strong interest in dramaturgy and worked with Leonie Böhm, Alexander Giesche and Suna Gürler. He graduated in 2026 with a degree in Cross-Disciplinary Strategies from the University of Applied Arts Vienna.

Alongside his studies, he produced his own works, such as "Frankenstein Lost" (Jugendkulturfestival Basel, guest performance at Schauspielhaus Zürich) and "Blood Reign" (Zentralwäscherei Zürich, guest performance at Tojo Theater Bern), which he developed collaboratively as a director, dramaturg and author. Each of them explores the political within the fantastical: the cracks monsters leave behind and the wounds in which they nest, seen from a queer and dissident perspective and driven by an outspoken enthusiasm for pop-cultural phenomena.

As an assistant director, he has worked at Theater Nestroyhof Hamakom and Schauspielhaus Wien, as well as at Teatrul Național Radu Stanca Sibiu in Romania, where he staged a reading of "Steppenwolf". In 2026, he did an internship in the dramaturgy department of the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz, where he worked with Katie Mitchell, and took on the dramaturgy himself for "Wie wir werden", a collaboration with the RambaZamba Theater. Since the 2026/27 season, he has been assistant director and production assistant for WORX, the international program for emerging directors at the Berliner Ensemble.
