The Berliner Ensemble has three venues located within the BE-Quartier on Schiffbauerdamm: the Großes Haus, the Neues Haus and the Werkraum. Since the 2023/24 season, the 'Einblicke' department has been staging performances in the Gartenhaus in the inner courtyard.
The Berliner Ensemble's main theatre, now known as the Großes Haus, was built by the architect Heinrich Seeling in the Neo-Baroque style. It opened on 19 November 1892 as the Neues Theater. The auditorium in the historic theatre building on Schiffbauerdamm, which celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2017, normally seats around 700 people.
Throughout its long history, the neo-Baroque main building was flanked only by temporary facilities until 2019. Following a complete refurbishment, two additional venues opened in the 2019/20 season: the Neues Haus and the Werkraum, located in a former rehearsal and workshop building in the inner courtyard. These venues enable contemporary theatre production in various formats and complete the BE complex.
The Neues Haus has a capacity of around 170 seats and the Werkraum around 60 seats. Since the 2022/23 season, the Werkraum has been home to the WORX programme for young directors.
