Fritzi Wartenberg

Fritzi Wartenberg (born in Cologne in 1997) is a director and writer. She grew up in Salzburg and initially studied Comparative Literature at the University of Vienna. She then transferred to the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna, where she studied directing until 2022. Her tutors included David Bösch, Dušan David Pařízek and Martin Kušej. Since then, she has worked at renowned theatres across the German-speaking world, including the Schauspiel Köln, the Staatstheater Hannover and the Burgtheater in Vienna. In 2023, she received the Helene Weigel Theatre Prize for her productions at the Berliner Ensemble, 'The Writer' and 'Alias Anastasius'. This was followed in 2025 by the Kurt Hübner Directing Prize for her production of Werner Schwab's 'Volksvernichtung oder meine Leber ist sinnlos' at the Akademietheater in Vienna.
