Der Lebenslauf des Boxers Samson-Körner (The Life-Story of the Boxer Samson-Körner)
Currently no Performances
Although Brecht’s love for sports was purely platonic, he was a great boxing enthusiast. In 1924, he met the reigning light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Paul Samson-Körner. Brecht considered him a “significant type” and asked him to tell his story: The life of a runaway and wastrel who went to sea, drifted for a while and finally found the sport of boxing. It were not his victories and triumphs, but rather the small defeats and daily humiliations that taught him that we may not only be responsible for what we do, but also for what is done to us.
