Astrid is a teacher and lives with Klara, her significantly younger partner. One evening, Mr Balderkamp, her boss, announces a visit to their home. Just an informal visit, perhaps with a glass of wine, but Klara is doesn’t like the sound of it. After all, he still teaches at the same school where she Klara, still a pupil, met Astrid. And so, over the course of the evening, the separation of work and private life, of past and present, is more and more revealed to be an illusion. And to top it all, there’s Ellen Babić… A psychological thriller about the delicate web of dependencies between people, shattered certainties, the abuse of power and about dynamics that impact all of our relationships.
The plays by author and director Marius von Mayenburg are distinguished by the psychological precision of their dialogues, their situational comedy as well as the topicality and acuity of the negotiated conflicts. "Ellen Babić" is his first play to be produced at Berliner Ensemble.
