Taking his own associative exploration of Felix Krull, the epitome of the conman-character, at Berliner Ensemble’s Grosses Haus as a point of departure, Alexander Eisenach continues to investigate the Krull-principle at Kleines Haus, a principle that concerns all of us: “When did we start lying? Was the lie invented at the same moment that human consciousness manifested itself? Was it the moment when we began to walk upright? To utilise our environment, launching a tremendous process of civilisation? Have we been hoodwinking ourselves for millennia with the stories we told about ourselves? Describing us as the summit of creation? Is this entire theatre of mankind, the final act of which we are currently seeing, nothing but a long con-game?”
